The axis powers were formed by Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and the empire of Japan in the Pacific front. These powers fought jointly against the Allies in WWII, that were constituted by France, UK, United Stated and the URSS (from 1941 onwards). The axis emerged during the German and Italian territorial expansions that took place before the war.
