The first question is asking what you would like to buy in a shoe store. So, the answer will be shoes: zapatos. The second question is a bit trickier. There are two parts to using the verb "gustar." First, you have to know how to conjugate it. Second, you have to know which indirect object pronoun to use before "gustar." The sentence is literally saying: Music is pleasing to us (We like music). In this sentence, we know how to conjugate "gustar" by what comes after it. "Escuchar música" is technically a singular thing (listening to music), so "gustar" will be conjugated to "gusta." Next, we know that listening to music is pleasing to us, which means that the pronoun will correspond to nosotros: nos. So, the sentence will read: A nosotros nos gusta escuchar musica. 3. The correct answer is the last option. The conjugation of "gustar" will remain the same, but we are changing the pronoun from "you" to "me": from "te" to "me." 4. The sentence is saying: I listen to CDs with ____. So, the answer will be "ears": los oídos (ojos is eyes and labios is lips). 5. The sentences say: Marisa buys some sandals and shoes in the store. The sandals cost 27 pesos. The shoes cost 30 pesos. How many total pesos does Marisa pay to the cashier? To find the answer, simply add the two together: 27 + 30 = 57. So, the correct answer is 57 pesos. 6. The sentence is saying: I read the science book with ____. So, the answer will be "eyes": los ojos. 7. Depending on the image, "el pan" will be a picture of bread, "las frutas" will be fruit, "el arroz" will be rice, and "la leche" will be milk. 8. The question is asking: How much does the meat cost? So, the answer will provide a monetary value: La carne cuesta $5 (The meat costs 5 dollars). 9. The sentence is saying: The cheese is in the ____ section. So, we will want the answer that says dairy: los productos lácteos.

The ice trade

Before refrigerators existed, there was ice. Without ice, people couldn't keep food cold, which meant they were limited to food that didn't spoil or food grown near where they lived. A businessman named Frederic Tudor understood that consumers, including food producers, wanted to keep supplies fresh. In 1806, he founded a company that shipped ice from frozen lakes, ponds, and streams to other parts of the United States and the world. Customers were able to keep food for longer and more safely. The ice allowed farmers to send food further and fishermen to store their catch. The ice trade forever changed the health of Americans by making it easier to preserve food.

Passage 2

The fridge

Although the first refrigerator for home use was available in 1913, it wasn't until 1927 that refrigerators looked the way they do today. Between 1913 and 1927, various inventors toyed with different ways to build the refrigerator. Some versions had many parts that had to be placed in different rooms of a house. Other versions came as a single unit, but they were big and expensive. General Electric was the first company to make a refrigerator, the "Monitor Top", which was self contained and affordable. More Americans were able to keep fresh food in their homes, improving health and increasing the variety of foods they ate. However, this model used dangerous chemicals. In the 1930s, newer and safer chemicals were used in refrigerators, making them the essential appliance we have today. What detail is mentioned in both passages?

TO.

Farmers and fishermen benefited from keeping food cold.

SECOND.

C.

Cold foods improve freshness and are healthier.

RE.
