The middle part, the dermis, has a thickness of 15-40 times that of the epidermis. The dermis consists of various components such as blood vessels and glands. The hypodermis is composed of adipose tissue and functions to store fat, resist impact, and insulation. The thickness of this layer varies from species to species.
