Slave status was traditionally assigned to people living in tribes who were very poor, they did not posses lands,. The most ancient civilizations had some form of slavery present in early days. It seemed that slavery was necessary to construct the New world because they helped sustain the coffee, tobacoo, sugar and most of the economy.

The patrician which were the upper class consisting of weathly landowners, leading citizens, government officials, and very prosperous business owners.
Next were the plebians. They were ordinary citizens, some of which were successful entrepreneurs while others were small business owners.
And lastly were the slaves. They had no rights at all, they couldn't own land or businesses
Two aspects were very powerful statements. The first aspect was the march itself. There were people of all different types of ethnicities marching. African-Americans were not the only ones there. Another aspect was the speech made by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The speech called for equality and for future African-Americans to be judged not by the color of their skin but by the contents of their character.
