Answer:

B). Anyone on the streets past 9:00 p.m. could be  arrested.

Explanation:

The given excerpt from 'Part of the Stew' discusses the time of disturbance and therefore, Major General Andrew Jackson has arrived to review the troops and their preparation ('able to wear troops') for the battle to be carried forward the next day.

In the above context of war situation, the second option clearly reveals and substantiates that martial law chiefly asserts that '<u>no one is allowed to get out on the streets after the specific time i.e. 9:00 PM and if one is found, he/she could be arrested at once by the troops</u>.' Thus, <u>option B</u> is the correct answer.

Which statement best expresses a theme in the story “the bet”
raketka [301]

B: the desire to prove to others that you’re right can lead to extreme actions.

In the story, the lawyer and the banker get into an argument about whether or not life imprisonment would be more humane than capital punishment. The banker challenges the lawyer to a bet stating that the lawyer must remain in isolation for 15 years. To prove that he is right, the lawyer takes the bet. The desire to prove himself correct leads the lawyer to take the extreme action of giving up everything and living a life locked up in solitude.

Why does Shakespeare construct Juliet`s lines so that she never directly lies?
Phantasy [73]
I've read Romeo and Juliet many times, and I can't agree with your question as to "Why does Shakespeare construct Juliet's lines so that she never directly lies" There are several times where she led others to believe something other than the truth-- she led her father to believe she was going to the confessional for her rebellion, when she was truly going to marry Romeo.  She also finally acts as though she has succumbed to her father and will marry Paris.
That being said: I said "led on to believe" which is our day and age is considered lying/dishonesty.  However when Shakespeare wrote this in 1597, things were much different than the are today.  <span></span><span>Why does Shakespeare construct Juliet`s lines so that she never directly lies? A potienal </span><span>answer could be: <span><em>Shakespeare wanted the character of Juliet to remain innocently caught up in between the</em><em> </em><em>fued of </em>the </span></span><em>Montague and </em><span><em>Capulet</em></span><em>.  If she had </em><em>out right</em><em> lied, her fragile, innocent </em><em>perseption</em><em> could be seen more as deception and connivery. </em>

What aspect of life brings the monster sheer joy?
Andrew [12]

Answer:

The answer is: letter A, Observing the interactions of those in love.

Explanation:

"Sheer joy" refers to being very happy. For a monster to have "sheer joy," <em>he should observe or experience something that he hasn't encounter before.</em>

So, among the choices above, letter A<u> (Observing the interactions of those in love)</u> is something that the monster will feel very happy to see. This is because, he cannot feel such kind of situation because he is a monster. Many times, people are afraid of him, thus watching people interacting when they're in love would bring sheer joy to the monster.

Thus, this explains the answer.
