The US Declaration of dependence was put together by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, during the beginning of the American Revolution. The phrase<em> all men are created equal</em> has been referred to as an <em>immortal declaration</em> and is still used by many figured from American social and political life. It's source is the influence French Enlightenment philosophers, such as Rousseau, Voltaire, and Montesquieu had on Jefferson. One of the main ideas of the Enlightenment thinkers is that all men were born free and equal, and its spreading was the cause of the French Revolution of 1789.
