Answer:

Their leaders had more military experience. They were fighting on their own land (familiar territory). they had more experienced soldiers. Although they did have a smaller population, this was a disadvantage because less people=less soldiers. The North was more industrialized, so they benefited from a better telegraph system, railroad system, and more factories. They also had a much larger population. Many southerners were actually slaves, and their loyalty to the Confederacy could not be depended on
