Eventhough its no reason to create slaves and force them to work, one of the factor that influeced the most the trade of slaves and encouraged it, was the need for workers in the tobacco and sugar plantations, it was a hard work that many people weren´t willing to do, and the payment was never enough, so slaves to whom your own responsability was to keep them alive and feed them, were the cheapest and the most profitable workers for those plantationes, that was what kept slavery going.
