Answer:

because it will improve your listening skills and understanding of other points of view

Explanation:

Throughout history, knowledge has developed from contrasting and comparing different ideas and points of view. In modern societies freedom of speech has played an important role as it allows different groups to express themselves. In a group discussion a similar thing happens. By respecting and allowing other thoughts and ideas you can learn new things, things that you maybe ignored or that you oppose. A problem that seemed clear to you, can appear innovative or challenging. By carefully listening to these points of view you will develop your listening skills as you need to fully undestand them in order to counterargument in an effective way. New knowledges will be formed and a deeper undestanding of different topics will be achieved.

In a group discussion, the best reason that you should respect the opinions of others, even if you do not agree with them is because, it will improve your listening skills and understanding of other points of view. This way, open-mindedness is also improved. At the same time, you will enrich your own ideas more by comparing it to others.

iris [78.8K]

In the novel “Hard Times” by Charles Dicken, Mr. Gradgrind refers to Sissy as “girl number 20”. Charles uses this labeling of Sissy to criticize the dehumanization of students and the stripping away of their individuality.

Mr. Gradgrind is so unbiased that he doesn't use names when referring to his students, instead he uses numbers like he does with Sissy.

4. Part A: How did Duckworth's experiences as a teacher contribute to the text? *
xenn [34]

Answer:

Her experience as a teacher helped her understand that just talent wasn't enough to be successful , hardwork was important too.

Explanation:

  • Angela Duckworth was teaching math when she noticed a behavior in her students.
  • The successful students weren't the ones who had a natural aptitude, but the one's who worked hard. They displayed a quality she called-grit.
  • Later with the help of a graduate student of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, she coined the term grit-combination of passion and perseverance for a singularly important goal
  • They created a tool to measure it: the “grit scale”.
  • Due to her exemplary work, Dr. Duckworth was named a MacArthur “genius” in 2013, and the notion of grit has become widely known.
