Answer:

C). Thunder; lightning.

Explanation:

Conditioned stimulus is described as the outcome of a learned behavior that primarily functions to trigger the specific conditioned response while the unconditioned stimulus is characterized as the naturally occurring stimulus that evokes a response automatically without any prior learning.

In the given example, the 'thunder' would be the unconditioned stimulus as it evokes a natural and unconditioned response from Samantha i.e. 'her jumping' while the 'lightning' exemplifies the 'conditioned stimulus' as it evokes a learned response which she has learnt from her previous experience and displayed even before hearing the thunder actually. It implies that her latter behavior was a learned response. Thus, option C is the correct answer.

Do human beings have the right to pursue science over ideology, no matter the gains or sacrifices?
LuckyWell [14K]
This should be true. Scientists very often have the idea of self-censure because they understand whether or not their research could be potentially dangerous, for example, if they understand that their creation could be a terrible weapon they decide to not pursue it and abandon the research. Things get nasty when they don't do it, but almost anything can be exploited so they sometimes don't even understand in what ways their research could be exploited. If ideology starts banning scientific research because of ideological differences, then it's similar to how the church killed scientists in the medieval era because scientists opposed what was essentially ideology at the time.

Which sentence has an inappropriate shift in number? Pet owners should be prepared to take care of their pets for a long time. I
djyliett [7]

Answer:

The sentence that has an inappropriate shift in number is:

If my friend calls, tell them I'm at my violin lesson.

Explanation:

In the sentence "If my friend calls, tell them I'm at my violin lesson," the speaker is at first talking only of one person, which is why he uses "friend" in its singular form. However, later in the sentence, the speaker refers back to the noun "friend" with the pronoun "them", and this is where the inappropriate shift in number happens. "Them" is a plural noun. For the sentence to be correct, the speaker would have to use either "him" or "her" to refer back to "friend".
