This movemental that developed in the late 1820s and 1830s in the United States believes in the <u>inherent goodness</u> of people and nature, in the fact that society and institutions have corrupted the <u>purity of the individual</u>, and in the idea that people <u>show their best</u> when they are truly independent and <u>self-reliant</u>.
