Technology affected American lifestyles in two main ways. First, it gave Americans more leisure time. By the 1920s, there were many more labor saving devices, particularly ones that reduced the difficulty of housework. ... Second, technology gave Americans more things to do with that newly-found spare time.

Cars were more available to the public, and many people would buy one just to drive around, which was considered fun.

The radio allowed people to listen to music from home, as well as listen to the various radio shows that began around this time. The radio would also play news and sermons.

Telephones had been invented, allowing people to contact each other from far away for the first time.
