This led to imperialism where European countries would colonize Africa, for example, and take their natural resources back to the European country so that they could process it and develop more.

Pre Columbian is before Columbus travelled to the Americas in 1492 (thus starting globalization and connecting the Old and New world). I think it's generally used to refer to the New world areas.

Mesoamerica is "middle America" and is pretty much Mexico, Central America, and/or the Carribean.
