The main political challenge that Mexico faced after independence was the conservatives and liberals fighting over opposing views of government. This caused a series of 50 governments in the next 30 years after independence with most being result of military coups. While the conservatives proposed the old spanish model, the liberals wanted a system close to the one of the United States.
