I do not know if this is a multiple choice question or not, but I would argue that, although the qualities of a hero could be very different (Achilles and Hector were, in fact, diametrically opposed), they shared some traits, such as astuteness and an ability to improvise when facing challenges or problems. Furthermore, although they were mortal, their often superhuman accomplishments, attributes and also faults made them look more like gods rather than humans. They also shared the trait of having lived difficult lives. They were saviors (of their fellow citizens, of their spouses and relatives) and, like the gods, they were worshiped through rituals and offerings after their death. They were also very resolute and physically strong.
The slavery known to Africans prior to European contact did not involve a belief in inferiority of the slaves. Most slaves in West Africa were captured in war.
