If I had the opportunity to meet with any famous person, I would meet with Alexander Hamilton. Unlike most founding fathers, Hamilton was born into a very poor family in the Caribbean, so he didn't have the same upbringing as many of his fellow historical figures. Adding to that, he was orphaned at a young age, and in order to be able to make it to the US, had to work very hard and have a lot of perseverance. Hamilton was always very strong in his beliefs because of that, as well. I would be interested in knowing more about his side of the famous scandal between himself and Maria Reynolds as well, and what must have been racing through his mind as he published the Reynolds Pamphlet. He was also such an avid writer, writing fifty-one of the eighty-five Federalist Papers, which is more than double the amount intended to be written originally between him, John Jay, and James Madison, and I would want to know what kept him going and writing hundreds of thousands of pages of everything from letters to reports to essays.

Harrizon [31]

Answer:

By high school, boys generally score higher on math in standardized tests, although not by much. By college age, only about a third of female students in the United States pursue degrees in math and science, and by the time they reach the workforce, men outnumber women in the sciences 4 to 1.

How does Yezierska’s account apply to today’s concerns on immigration and the lives of recent immigrants?
ryzh [129]

Answer:

Anzia Yezierska was an American author of the late 1800s and early 1900s who wrote stories about Jewish immigrants living in poverty or other unsatisfactory conditions of the Gilded Age.

Today's concerns on immigration - can I just summarize in one word - Trump. Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, has enforced a crackdown on immigration, even going so far as to promise that a wall will be built between Mexico and America to keep out illegal entrants.

Yezierska's novels bring out the humanity in these people. She wrote them to give perspective to educated readers the hardships of being a member of the working class, of being manipulated by bosses and high class. These opinions and points of view are particularly salient today because of the debate over immigration in the US.
