Angela Duckworth was teaching math when she noticed something intriguing: The most successful students weren’t always the ones who displayed a natural aptitude; rather, they displayed something she came to think of as grit. Later, as a graduate student in psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, she defined the term — a combination of passion and perseverance for a singularly important goal — and created a tool to measure it: the “grit scale,” which predicted outcomes like who would graduate from West Point or win the National Spelling Bee. As a result of this work, Dr. Duckworth was named a MacArthur “genius” in 2013, and the notion of grit has become widely known. Her new book, “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance,”

Which word in this excerpt from H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds provides a context clue to the meaning of the word descended
kenny6666 [7]

Answer:

Fallen.

Explanation:

The term "descended" means the act of falling, coming down from a higher place to a lower place. It is the act of coming down from a higher grown to a lower grown.

In H. G. Wells's "The War of the Worlds", the narrator/ speaker uses the term <em>"fall/ fallen" </em>multiple times in the given excerpt. The speaker describes the fallen mass <em>"from outer space"</em> which people thought must be another meteorite. And that was also why people did not go looking for it, for no one thought or expected it to be an alien ship.

Thus, the word is "fallen".

Write your question here (Keep it simple and clear to get the best answer) what grammatical name is given to this expression (if
Mandarinka [93]

Answer:

I think the answer would be "social"

Explanation:

I think this would be the answer because a grammatical name is the name given to a word, phrase or clause depending on its function in a given clause or sentence. There are several grammatical names such as noun phrase, adverbial phrase, adjective phrase, adjectival phrase, prepositional phrase, noun clause, adverbial clause and adjectival/relative clause. In this case i think the grammatical name is a clause meaning it has a subject and verb "man" being the subject and "understood" being the verb.

BlackZzzverrR [31]

Our favorite pastimes are spending time at the library, to ride around through the countryside, and huge banana splits to share.  This is not parallel

That tribe of Native Americans was famous for weaving rugs, shaping pottery, and designing turquoise jewelry. This is parallel

Parallel structure means that the items included in a list must be in the same form, in the first  case there are nouns and in the third case the list is on gerunds
