The Middle East is best associated with Oil.

From ancient times, oil appeared naturally in certain regions of the Middle East. 6000 years ago in Assyria and Babylon it was used to stick bricks and stones, in medicine and in the caulking of boats; in Egypt, to oil skins.

The first oil distillation is attributed to the Arab sage of Persian origin Al-Razi in the ninth century, inventor of the alembic, with which he obtained kerosene and other distillates, for medical and military purposes.

Today, strategic oil reserves, especially in Saudi Arabia and Iran, are among the largest in the world and OPEC is dominated by Middle Eastern countries.
