Why are dashes, rather than parentheses or commas, used in this sentence?

English

Dashes are used instead of parentheses or commas in the sentence because of the following reasons:
-Parentheses are used to set off a participle word or words which can be omitted, but does not affect the whole thought of the sentence. In addition, parentheses could also be used to add a specific detail about the word beside it.
-Dashes, just like parentheses, are used to set additional information off. Dashes are commonly used if the words it enclosed already has a comma or commas in it, just to avoid confusion. In addition, dashes are more appropriate to use for interrupted sentences.

A. Parentheses are being used because they set off longer, less-related parenthetical asides.

Good luck on the rest! xx

• President Donald Trump has come to Mumbai in India and you are the historian who is supposed to explain the history of Mumbai.
podryga [215]

pon receiving President Trump, I introduced myself and asked how he was doing and whether he had made a good trip. Then I invite you to hear about Munbai's story so that he can better understand, the importance of it and why it is a synonym for pride in the country. He gladly accepted when I started to speak:

"Munbai is an ancient city, dated to 250 BC when it was formed by an archipelago of seven islands ruled by the Silhara dynasty, one of the great names of Hinduism, until 1343. Due to its economic potential, it did not take long for it to attract the attention of European colonialism, which was invaded and controlled by the Portuguese between 1509 and 1668, when it was leased by the United Kingdom and annexed to the British East India Company, which consisted of major architectural works that allowed all the islands to be joined in a single territory.

Although the region had many projects aimed at engineering, it also had a strong agricultural capacity, being the center of cotton during the American civil war, which transformed the local economy and stabilized the market in a grandiose way. The economy improved even more after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, making Munbai the largest port in the Arabian Sea and making it possible for population growth and an admirable quality of life.

With the economy becoming more and more successful, munbai became one of the most influential urban centers in the region which gave strength to the beginning of policies that stabilized the independence movement, which allowed the region to grow without the command of Europeans. Independence was achieved in 1942, after much struggle and perseverance. Since then, the city has only grown, not only economically but also culturally, being the seat of Indian film production. "

What is your view of the effects of multicultural identity on American society? Use evidence from the lesson and the story “Meri
BlackZzzverrR [31]
The story 'Mericans' depicts how Hispanic and Mexican immigration was having an impact on the fabric of American society and how it had created a new population which was unsure of its identity.

In some cases, the majority white population was racist towards the Mexicans while in other cases it was not.

However, even if the language and food of Mexicans was being celebrated by the majority white population, there were still several identity crises within the young.

The story gives the example of two Mexican kids who speak English and want to embrace the ways of America. However, their traditonal grandmother wants them to focus on the church, speaking Spanish and live a more 'Mexican' Life.

Such identity crises were experienced by many immigrants and still has a huge impact on first-generation immigrants from China, Pakistan, India etc

"But my ama, with her crow-black hair braided with bits of red rag and beads, her cinnamon skin, and her ears hung with joyful noise of thinking gold is more lovely to me"
