Read this writing prompt. Write an argumentative essay about whether kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school. Base

d on the prompt, which claim is the strongest? Cell phones are helpful tools that allow people to easily access information and stay organized. In the latest survey, 78 percent of kids asked said that they believed they should be allowed to bring cell phones to school. Schools should not allow kids to bring cell phones because they are too much of a distraction. Not every kid can have a cell phone because they are expensive and many kids do not have jobs.

Answer:

There is one strong claim against it:

Schools should not allow kids.... distraction.

Explanation:

Those who are not strong claims:

In the latest survey... kids said

Anything that is based on what kids say can´t be a strong claim.

Not every kid can have... because... expensive... kids do not have jobs

Apart from the fact that child labor is forbidden the economic reason for not allowing cell phones is not the issue. It is a social and educational issue.

And the other claim in favor has one word that makes it rather worthless:

they are helpful tools and allow people ...

As we are talking about kids this claim misses the important point.
