What effect did the Vietnam War have on the power of the President?
vivado [14]
The Vietnam War had a deep impact on the United States of America. President Lyndon Johnson escalated the war yet the South still fell to the North. It had a huge political, social and economic impact on the country as it split the Democratic Party and people were now more suspicious of government. Spending for the war drained the resources of the American government that resulted to inflation. After exhausting all effort into a losing war, Congress passed the War Powers Act that limited the President’s power to send troops to war without the Congress’ approval.
