Geopolitics play an important role in the Middle East today because the Middle East is a region that is heavily connected to the international system and nations across the globe. Historically this connection has been linked to the presence of oil and natural gas in the Middle East and its importance as a resource to other regions of the world far from the region. Therefore, the Middle East's natural resources have linked it to geopolitics for decades.
