The Arnolfini portrait holds a myriad of details and complex symbolisms. One of which is the convex mirror that can be found in the center of the rear wall. Four figures are reflected in the mirror, the Italian merchant Giovanni Arnolfini and his wife Costanza. The two other figures are seen standing in the open doorway. Scholars and Art historians assumed that the person in red was that of the artist himself. This assumption was based on the appearances of figures wearing red in some of Van Eyck's other artworks. Another evidence that supports this was a Latin inscription found above the mirror that says "Johannes de eyck fuit hic 1434" (Jan Van Eyck was here 1434). Another theory was that the two figures served as witnesses to the marriage between the main subjects of the portrait.
For close-ups, deep focusis a common choice. It keeps in sharp focus things that are both close to and far away from the camera.type of focus guides the viewer's attention to one specific element, such as an actor with a pivotal moment in the scene.Shallow focusis, of course, the opposite of deep focus. Only actors and other elements close to the camera's physical location can be seen clearly and sharply. When the focus of the camera is sharp, and it moves from one area to another within the course of the shot, such as from one actor's face to another's, the focus is called rack focus. This movement of the focus generally takes place quick.Soft focusblurs the images of the shot and makes everything in the shot look hazy. The focus isn't entirely blurry; instead, the lines in the shot are softened, but the viewer is still able to have a general sense of who is in the shot and what is happening
