It was a composed massacre against Jews. It occurred in November 1938. Kristallnacht implies Night of Broken Glass. The Nazis utilized the shooting of a German representative in Paris by a Jew as a reason to release a composed and rough massacre against Jews in Germany. 
The name originates from the breaking of glass as Jewish structures, especially synagogues, and Jews themselves were focused on, Hundreds of synagogues were scorched to the ground. 
It denoted a huge heightening of provocation of Jews by the Nazis which had started as they came to control. Thousands were captured and sent to death camps. Many were additionally executed.
