In one part of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stow, Mrs. Shelby has just discovered that her husband has agreed to sell tw

o of their slaves, including the adult Tom and a young boy. Mrs. Shelby pleads with him to reconsider. The following excerpt is Mr. Shelby's explanation of their predicament.
I'm sorry you feel so about it,—indeed I am, said Mr. Shelby; and I respect your feelings, too, though I don't pretend to share them to their full extent; but I tell you now, solemnly, it's of no use—I can't help myself. I didn't mean to tell you this Emily; but, in plain words, there is no choice between selling these two and selling everything. Either they must go, or all must. Haley has come into possession of a mortgage, which, if I don't clear off with him directly, will take everything before it. I've raked, and scraped, and borrowed, and all but begged,—and the price of these two was needed to make up the balance, and I had to give them up. Haley fancied the child; he agreed to settle the matter that way, and no other. I was in his power and had to do it. If you feel so to have them sold, would it be any better to have all sold?

You might remember that the author of this passage was bitterly opposed to slavery. What response was she hoping her readers would have to Mr. Shelby's logic?

A. They would agree that selling the slaves was necessary but extremely unfortunate.

B. They would believe that Mr. Shelby could easily find a way to make everyone happy.

C. They would agree with Mr. Shelby that he had no other choice than to sell the slaves.

D. They would find Mr. Shelby's decision cruel in spite of the reason he gives for the decision.

Answer:

I think its A but u might wait and see if anyone else comments !

Explanation My reasoning is because she's upset that she has to sale the 2 slaves but isn't very opposed to caring about their well being just how much money and what they do for them and it was necessary because he has got something into his possession he cannot risk losing.

Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).

What is a narrative? A narrative is a story. What are elements? Elements are parts of a whole, so narrative elemnts are just story parts. The main narrative elements are:

Characters are what the people or animals a story is about.

Setting is the time and place in which a story takes place.

The plot tells the events that happen in a story. Often a plot includes a problem (conflict) and a solution (resolution).

Narrative Text:

Broadly defined, narrative text tells a story. It is found in the form of short stories, folktales, tall tales, myths, fables, legends, fantasies, science fiction — even in the reporting of news stories or in biographies and autobiographies. The narrative structure most often features a beginning, middle, and an ending. It most often also features clear story elements, or story grammar, including:

1. characters

2. settings

3. themes

4. a central problem, or conflict

5. a sequence of events that form a story line, or plot

Tomtit [17]
I think the first answer to the first answer is C. I clipped the review 'Local Restruants for Foodies' out of the paper for you. I think the next answer might be A. I'm only halfway through the chapter ''The Lawerance Boy.'' I think the last answer is B. The main character in ''Treasure Island'' sailed on the ship the Hispaniola.
