Eleven states seceded from the Union.  they felt as though the United States was taking away their rights.  when Abraham Lincoln was elected as president, that was when most of the states decided to secede and form the confederacy, because Lincoln wanted to end slavery in America.

The movie <u><em>The Little American.</em></u> Set explicitly in WWI, popular movie star Mary Pickford played an American nurse serving in France who fell in love with two men: a French soldier and a German soldier.

The<u><em> fashion was almost stagnant </em></u>as people think that dressing in a simple manner was more important than wearing complex outfits.  

In sports the <u><em>American and the National league</em></u> were stopped for the 1918 season.
