It's the religious text of Islam, Muslims believe it's a revelation from God. They believe that the Quran was told by God to Muhammad. It was published around 650 A.D. It is divided into 114 surahs which is kinda like chapters I guess, this is all that I know about the Quran. I hope this can be of some use to you.

Heck it made them more powerful over the citizens. The Venetian trade ships carried goods during the crusade and from then on Italy was kind of like a middle trade route with a booming rich economy. The church taught that the pope was highest political figure. Also the demand for goods let them impose huge taxes on the goods leaving and entering their shores.

The importance of Avignon Papacy is that, it improved much of the organization of the Church, which established major offices that is still operating until the present. They also supported missionary activity as well as scholarship and arts.
