To find the slope,we can use the slope formula:
Where x and y are y coordinates and x coordinates respectively.
To find the answer, put any two points into the formula.
In this case, (1,5) and (0,-1) will be used:
x1 and y1 would be the x and y coordinate in the first point(1,5), while x2 and y2 would be the x and y coordinate in the first point (0,-1)
Therefore the answer is 6.
Hope it helps!
I assume you're just solving for x. Factorize the left side as
3 sin²(x) - 3 sin⁴(x) = 3 sin²(x) (1 - sin²(x)) = 0
Recall that
sin²(x) + cos²(x) = 1
so that the equation further reduces to
3 sin²(x) cos²(x) = 0
Also recall the double angle identity,
sin(2x) = 2 sin(x) cos(x)
which lets us rewrite the equation as
3/2² (2 sin(x) cos(x))² = 3/4 sin²(2x) = 0
Solve for x :
3/4 sin²(2x) = 0
sin²(2x) = 0
sin(2x) = 0
2x = arcsin(0) + 2nπ or 2x = π - arcsin(0) + 2nπ
(where n is any integer)
2x = 2nπ or 2x = (2n + 1) π
x = nπ or x = (2n + 1)/2 π
Notice that this means the solution set is
{…, -2π, -3π/2, -π, -π/2, 0, π/2, π, 3π/2, 3π, …}
so we can condense the solution further to
x = nπ/2
with any integer n.
The answer to your question is 198.5ft
I wrote it all down so you can understand it better
It took me awhile, but using the Rational Root Theorem and then synthetic division I got the first root. If you don't know the RRT you'll be in heaps of trouble doing this type of problem. I found the first root to be (x+6), then I did it again and got another root of (x+6) and the third one was (x-5). So the roots of this polynomial (and there are 3 because this is a 3rd degree polynomial) are (x+6) with a multiplicity of 2, and (x-5).
