The answer to this question is quite simple actually. As you may have noticed, all of the answer choices have colons in them, meaning that the phrase it comes before has to indicate or refer to something coming after the colon, in this case, a quote.

Choices A, B, and C all have problems in their use of the colon because they are not complete sentences and thus cannot have the colon, nor a phrase after it. That just leaves choice D: "Winston Churchill addressed the House of Commons with these famous words:"

It is the only one that makes sense and the one that is the correct answer. Good Luck!

Which best explains why Sunjata is considered an epic poem? a. It does not contain a hero b. It tells a long narrative story c.
Kamila [148]
A - incorrect as it does have a hero.
B - correct. The fact that it tells a long narrative story, among other things (like that it tells the story of the hero) makes it an epic poem.
C - incorrect as it is one long story
D - incorrect, using words in a poetic manner is not enough to consider writing an epic poem.

Which of the following is a complex sentence?
elena55 [62]
For this I would choose the first choice, A. "Eileen bought pants but not a new jacket."

A complex sentence is formed by an independent and a dependent clause. An independent clause is a part of a sentence that can still be a sentence on it's own. For example, "Eileen bought pants." could be a valid sentence.

A dependent clause is the opposite, and is a part of a sentence that can not still be a sentence on it's own. "But not a new jacket." is not a valid sentence.

I hope this was helpful.
