Answer: The first paragraph is the "hook" to get the reader interested. The writer is showing that ancient games and modern games-- even future games have something in common. The writer gets you interested.

The second paragraph is an example. The writer says that there is some evidence that playing games  may have helped people endure a famine, and there is some essence in games that reveals moral truths. The writer provides some evidence for the claim in the first paragraph.

The third paragraph explains the example and extends a logical argument that games make life more bearable as an escape from reality, and give the players a sense of accomplishment amid chaos or strife. The writer establishes that games are an important part of human culture, and lays the groundwork for further development.

Read lines 85-86 from the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” and answer the question.
maria [59]

Answer:

Disheartened

Explanation:

In these lines, Prufrock talks about the eternal Footman. We do not know who he is, but the fact that he is "eternal" implies a metaphysical presence. As the poem focuses on death heavily, it is likely that the Footman is connected to death. A footman was responsible for welcoming visitors, which implies this footman might welcome Prufrock to the afterlife. The fact taht he snickers, instead of laughing, conveys a lack of respect and care, as if the Footman thought very little of the speaker. All this contributes to a disheartened mood.
