Can most organisms use "free" nitrogen gas in the atmosphere?

No, because “free” nitrogen is not combined with other kinds of atoms.
Most organisms can use nitrogen only once it has been "fixed" or combined with other elements to form nitrogen-containing compounds.

Explain the different stages of syphilis. (Terminology/topics to include: causative organism (morphology, gram-stain reaction),
ikadub [295]

Answer:

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease

Explanation:

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum, a spirochaete gram-negative bacterium with various subspecies. This disease is transmitted through direct contact (person to person) by different types of sexual acts. A chancre is an infectious genital lesion that is considered to be the first stage (and symptom) of syphilis. The incubation period of syphilis is 14-21 days. Syphilis can be divided into four stages: primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. Primary syphilis produces chancres on the genitals, mouth, rectum, etc. Secondary syphilis causes rashes that occur from 2-8 weeks after the chancres. The third (latent) stage is a latent/hidden phase without noticeable symptoms. Finally, the tertiary (late) stage causes large sores within the body that affects the heart, nervous system, etc. The best manner to prevent syphilis is by practicing safe sex (e.g., by using condoms). It has been suggested that syphilis has an estimated transmission rate of 0.5–1.4% per sexual act. Syphilis doesn't have an effective treatment, but this disease can be cured in its early stages with one dose of benzathine penicillin G (administered intramuscularly).

Which of the following is NOT a symptom of ketoacidosis?
Tom [10]

Answer:

Decreased breathing (a) is not a symptom of ketoacidosis.

Explanation:

Ketoacidosis is a condition involving the levated production of ketones in the organism, usually as a consequence of type 1 diabetes.

The build up of ketones in the blood is mostly due to the breakdown of fatty acids by the body to acquire energy. Since ketone is an organic acid, its high levels decrease blood pH leading to several symptoms.

Frequent urination (polurya), fruity odor to breath, dehydratation and electrolyte imbalance are some of the symptoms. Decreased breathing rate is not a symptom, actually, ketoacidosis leads to rapid breathing.

Increasing the rate of breathing reduces the amount of CO₂ in the blood, which increases its pH making it less acidic.

Explain how the energy of a marble is transformed as it rolls down a ramp. Give evidence that energy of the marble remains the s
hodyreva [135]

The marble is release from the top of the ramp.Gravitational potential energy decreases as it roll down the ramp,at the same time the marble gains kinetic energy as well as a lost of energy in the form of heat due to friction.

Chenge in PE=change in KE

therefore energy remains the same on all parts of the ramp
