I think it's because college teachers want their students to gain experience on subjects in very field. My parents taught me that I should try and experience all fields, because someday it might help me. This is just my opinion.

I believe that it could be what the other person answered above as in the fact that they want their students to be educated in many fields because they may need it in the future. Or it could just be to make their uni look better
I would say A. Advertisers tend to target their ads at a certain age group, and using different types of music can have a different appeal to a certain age group. If they want certain people paying attention to their ads, they'll most likely use a song from their generation.
