This is a punishment that lasts a lifetime. If the punishment they received didn't follow them around and allowed them to learn their lesson now rather than later, yes I do think it was more worthwhile. The teen needs to learn that what they did was wrong and face the consequences now, this will cause them to stop doing what they are doing now. If it impacts the teen later in life then they most likely will not stop doing what they are doing until finally it all catches up with them.
