The Scopes trial can be seen as an attempt to expose the religious fundamentalism that took control of the government. This fundamentalism came with the Butler Act prohibiting the teaching of Evolutionary science in public universities and schools.

The trial occurred from July 10th to 21st in Dayton, Tennessee and was highly publicized. The substitute teacher John T. Scopes was charged for violating the state law by teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. He admitted he had taught the theory and was convicted and had to pay a fine of $100.

The effects generated from this trial were inevitable. It increased the political and legal conflict between fundamentalists and scientists. With anti-evolutionary laws spreading in the entire country both in North and South.

The Scope Trial of Dayton, Tennessee an American legal Trial filed in1925 left a long term impact in the school curriculum of the all private and state funded Tennessee schools. Publishers either have to remove or use substitute in the segment of evolution in their textbook. More than half of the teacher avoided denying the decision and thus Scope trial left a deep impact on the schoolcurriculum.

Further Explanation:

John Washington Butler a member of Tennessee House of Representatives marked Tennessee textbook counter Bible and drafted a bill against teaching “EvolutionaryTheory” in the schools, colleges, and universities. It was against the theory that man descended from lower animal. The bill was unclear and had a wide definition in Tennessee at that time. The bill was passed and became Butler Act in March 1925.soon after it, a bulletin was published on 4th May that American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was looking for teachers willing to rebel against the Butlers Act and ALCU will defend the teacher in the court for free. The very next day the local business leader of the Dayton decided that the trial would bring attention for their town and asked 24-year substitute science teacher John Scopes to participate to which he agreed Scopes was working in Dayton to save money for law school so he neglected the negative consequences of the trial .

The Scope Trial also Known as “The state of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes” filed during the summer of 1925 in the court of Dayton, Tennessee. The case seeks to substitute John Scopes the science teacher against violating Tennessee's ban on teaching evolution in all public and state funded Tennessee school. The trial lasted for eight day. The true importance of the trial was to make Americans aware the issue of teaching and modern science in all public schools.
