Milford Sound is located in the western part of the South Island. It is a very beautiful and attractive location for the nature lovers, and the landscape is fabulous.

The most dominant and most attractive geologic features of this region are the fjords. The fjords have formed during the ice age in the geologic past, when big portion of New Zealand had been covered with ice that had been carving though the mountains and valleys. Once the ice melted when the ice age ended, the glacial valleys got filled with the rising sea water, thus creating the fjords.
