Answer:

The correct answer for: What is the first step that you should undertake when performing a visual analysis of a work of art? Is: A. Understand the concept behind each element and principle of design in the artwork.

Explanation:

To understand this answer we need to analyze all of them

A. Understand the concept behind each element and principle of design in the artwork. This is the correct answer because we need to understand the concepts behind all the elements of the artwork and also see if they are performed well. As well as figuring out if the artwork as a whole object achieves his objective of transmitting a message while being a fine composition.

B. Analyze whether the artist successfully portrayed the central message in the artwork. This is a tricky answer because it leads us to believe that if the artist communicates the message he did a perfect piece of art. The thing is he could have been clear with his message but also, he could have performed very very badly. So it's incorrect because we are not analyzing the message, but the artwork as general.

C. Make a list of the different principles of design used by the artist in the artwork. This would only help us identify all the principles the artist did. It won't really help us know if they were applied properly or following the principles of the different techniques. So, it's incorrect.

D. Use gestalt principles to interpret the artwork as a whole. First of all, this is incorrect because if we interpret a piece of art by gestalt principles we are not really going to achieve the objective which is a general analysis of the work of art. In that, we would be doing a gestalt interpretation of the work of art. So it's incorrect.

A. Understand the concept behind each element and principle of design in the artwork. Because, The It's just a Visual Analysis so my highest guess would got to A since it's the only one that makes Sense when it comes to Visual.

Hope this helps!!
