The Olympic Forest was originally designated as the Olympic Forest Reserve but was renamed to the Olympic National Forest in the early 1900s. This region also contains several wilderness areas including the Brothers Wilderness, Buckhorn Wilderness, Colonel Bob Wilderness, Mt. Skokomish Wilderness, and Wonder Mountain Wilderness that are administered by two ranger districts – the Pacific Ranger District and the Hood Canal Ranger District.

There are 6 named mountains in Tiger Mountain State Forest. The highest and most prominent peak is East Tiger Mountain at 3,004 ft. The remaining peaks, from east to west, include West Tiger 1 at 2,958 ft, West Tiger 2 at 2,757 ft, and West Tiger 3 at 2,557 ft. The remaining two peaks are located just south of the main ridge and include Middle Tiger at 2,607 ft and South Tiger at 2,028 ft.

Tiger Mountain State Forest is one the most heavily trafficked forests in the entire state being located so close to Seattle.
