The Articles of Confederation set up the first government in the United States and went into effect in 1781. Under the Articles,

there was a legislative branch made up of a single house, and each state in the Union was given one vote. This government was very weak because the national government had to share a great deal of power with the states. The government had no authority to tax and could not control trade between the states. In 1787, delegates gathered in Philadelphia in order to come up with a new form of government to replace the Articles of Confederation. They drafted the Constitution, which would create a stronger central government with power divided among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. They created a system of checks and balances to limit the power of each branch. In the legislative branch, they created one house in which representation was based on a state's population and one house in which each state had equal representation. The author of the passage above would most likely agree with which of the following statements? A. The government set up by the Articles of Confederation was not effective. B. The central government was stronger under the Articles than the Constitution. C. The legislative branch should have more power than the executive branch. D. The best way to organize a government is to have one house make up the legislature.

Hi there!

To match the following items:

1. Oliver Hazard Perry - Battle of Lake Erie.

2. Andrew Jackson - Battle of New Orleans

3. Thomas MacDonough - Battle of Lake Champlain

4. John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay - War Hawks

5. Francis Scott Key - "The Star-Spangled Banner"

Captain Oliver Hazard Perry's command fought a successful fleet action against a Royal Navy’s task force in the Battle of Lake Erie in September of 1813.

Andrew Jackson defeated British troops some weeks after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed. Even though the battle had not significance, made Andrew Jackson a hero.

Thomas MacDonough commanded the American naval forces that defeated a British fleet on Lake Champlain. The Battle of Lake Champlain was part of the larger Battle of Plattsburgh. This battle helped lead to an end to the War of 1812.

John C. Calhoun of South Carolina and Henry Clay of Kentucky played a significant role in leading the nation to war in 1812. Henry Clay led the War Hawks that advocated waging war against the British in the War of 1812. In the other hand, John C. Calhoun agitated in Congress for the War of 1812 to defend American honour against Britain.

Francis Scott Key was the author of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Fort Henry in 1814. He watched the 25 hours of the bombing of the Ft. McHenry while he was held upon the British attacking of the fort. After seeing that the fort was still flying the USA flag, the next morning he wrote a poem about the battle called “The Star Spangled Banner” which became the national anthem.

Hope it helps!

some people may disagree but I say it is true, because the soldiers had to crwal under it so it took longer time and the enemy can pick them off easily.
