Tyler walks \frac{1}{4} miles in \frac{1}{12} hour. For 1 hour, you have to multiply by 12 since \frac{1}{12} \times 12 = 1.

\frac{1}{4} \times 12 = \frac{12}{4} = 3

Your answer is B) 3 miles per hour

To put the question in slightly different words: "What is Tyler's speed ?"

I said it that way because everybody knows the simple formula for speed:

Speed = (distance covered) / (time to cover the distance)

We know both of those numbers, so all we need to do is to pluggum in:

Speed = (1/4 mi) / (1/12 hr)

(1mi/4) ÷ (1hr/12) = (1mi/4) · (12/1hr) = (12mi / 4hr) = 3 mi/hr

Which sum or difference identity would you use to verify that cos (180° - q) = -cos q?
Phantasy [73]

Answer:

\cos (a-b)=\cos a \cos b+\sin a \sin b

Step-by-step explanation:

 Given : \cos (180^{\circ}-q)=-\cos q

We have to write which identity we will use to prove the given statement.

Consider \cos (180^{\circ}-q)=-\cos q

Take left hand side of given expression \cos (180^{\circ}-q)

We know

\cos (a-b)=\cos a \cos b+\sin a \sin b

Comparing , we get, a= 180° and b = q

Substitute , we get,

\cos (180^{\circ}-q)=\cos 180^{\circ}  \cos (q)+\sin q \sin 180^{\circ}

Also, we know \sin 180^{\circ}=0 and \cos 180^{\circ}=-1

Substitute, we get,

\cos (180^{\circ}-q)=-1\cdot \cos (q)+\sin q \cdot 0

Simplify , we get,

\cos (180^{\circ}-q)=-\cos (q)

Hence, use difference identity to  prove the given result.
