Which three lines in the poem are examples of alliteration? Song: To Celia by Ben Jonson Drink to me only with thine eyes, And I

will pledge with mine; Or leave a kiss but in the cup, And I’ll not look for wine. The thirst that from the soul doth rise Doth ask a drink divine; But might I of Jove’s nectar sup, I would not change for thine. I sent thee late a rosy wreath, Not so much honouring thee As giving it a hope, that there It could not withered be. But thou thereon didst only breathe, And sent’st it back to me; Since when it grows, and smells, I swear, Not of itself, but thee.

Alliteration is the repetition of a sound at the beginning of a set of words.

The following three lines in the poem all feature alliteration (words with alliteration are bolded)

'<span>Doth ask a drink divine'
</span>Repeated sound: /d/

<span>'The thirst that from the soul doth rise'
Repeated sound: </span>/θ/ (voiced th)<span>

'</span><span>Since when it grows, and smells, I swear...'
Repeated sound: /s/

What is the mood of the poem "the will"
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

It shows Donne in a non-serious playful mood. The poet's satirical vein finds full play, and the poem fully justifies Leishman's praise of Donne as, the monarch of wit. As usual, the emotional situation is defined in the very beginning. The poet is dejected and down-hearted because his beloved has rejected him.

When authors don’t want to offend the readers by using harsh word or phrase they can use a ?
MaRussiya [10]

Answer:

  • <u>euphemism</u>

<u></u>

Explanation:

<em>Euphemisms</em> are words that "sound good" in the sense that they are neither offensive nor unpleasant.

Thus, they  are used to prevent the audience from evoking unpleasant images, at least in a direct way.

They are frequently used when you are talking about some subjects that involve certain parts of the body or of the excretory system.

But, some times they are misused to bend the real true: many speaches from populist or dictators are full of euphemisms, which are aimed to twist the reality.
