In this sentence, stimulus will be a  hand touching fire of the stove. External response will be moving of the hand from the stove immediately.

A stimulus can be described as any physical or chemical change which elicits a response form a living organism. The stimulus is detected as a signal and response is generated in accordance to the signal.
