The correct answer would be letter B. 24-(3+2)
Mia ate three cupcakes and David ate two cupcakes. (2+3) = five cupcakes missing. Now using Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, we know parenthesis go first. When we add them together to get five all that is left to do is this:
24-5=19.
Five cupcakes went missing and only 19 remain.

Well,

Plainly a total of 5 cupcakes were taken away from the motherload of 24 cupcakes.  So the expression must be equivalent to 19.

24 + (3-2) = 24 + 1 = 25
Not right.

24 - (3 + 2) = 24 - 5 = 19
Right!

The correct option is B.

8 - 4 = 7 - 3 because it has a equal sign in the middle meaning that you have to find an equation that’s equal to it. So thats why the missing number is 3

_______________

Solve the equation:

\mathsf{\dfrac{8}{x-5}-\dfrac{9}{x-4}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}\qquad\qquad(x\ne 5~and~x\ne 4)}

Reduce the fractions at the left side so that they have the same denominator:

\mathsf{\dfrac{8(x-4)}{(x-5)(x-4)}-\dfrac{9(x-5)}{(x-4)(x-5)}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32}{x^2-4x-5x+20}-\dfrac{9x-45}{x^2-4x-5x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32}{x^2-9x+20}-\dfrac{9x-45}{x^2-9x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32-(9x-45)}{x^2-9x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}

Numerators must be equal:

\mathsf{8x-32-(9x-45)=5}\\\\
\mathsf{8x-32-9x+45=5}\\\\
\mathsf{8x-9x=5+32-45}\\\\
\mathsf{-x=-8}\\\\
\mathsf{x=8}\quad\longleftarrow\quad\textsf{this is the solution.}

I hope this helps. =)
