What do butterflies represent in lord of the flies?
bezimeni [28]

The Lord of The Flies symbolize Simon’s happiness, his peace and calmness with nature, the forest, and the boys and there current situation, how Simon travels to the forest to relax and be calm unlike the other boys who are scared to travel alone in the forest. They show how everything is not evil on the island, and are actually the opposite of the lord of the flies and the boys who act savagely. On page 151 there is a quote that shows how the butterflies try to avoid the evil and travel to a more tranquil and peaceful place, “Even the butterflies deserted the open space where the obscene thing grinned and dripped”. Also this quote shows how the boys are not only becoming more savage and evil, but also their sexual need, "Then Jack found the throat and the hot blood spouted over his hands. The sow collapsed under them and they were heavy and fulfilled upon her. The butterflies still danced, preoccupied in the center of the clearing." The butterflies also symbolize the immortal soul of the island meaning that the island will never die, no matter what the boys do or the world will do it.

In his short story “The Man Who Was Almost a Man,” why does Richard Wright use a Southern dialect to present the thoughts and sp
vodomira [7]

The correct answer is B. Wright wants to enhance the realism of the story for the audience.

The short story "The Man Who Was Almost a Man" was published in 1961. The technique of faithfully portraying the way the characters talk, their accent and informality, had been used to enhance realism much before that date. An example would be the writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, who already employed such style in his writing in the 1920's - for instance 'S'alright' instead of 'It's alright.'

That is what Wright does in the short story. Dave - an African-American who works at a farm - and the other characters have a very specific dialect. From its faithful representation in the story, a lot can be noted by the reader without much explanation being necessary: from the way they talk and the things they talk about, the time and setting, the social and historical context can be inferred. The very first dialog in the story is an example of that:

"Howdy, Dave! Whutcha want?"

"How yuh, Mistah Joe? Aw, Ah don wanna buy nothing. Ah jus wanted t see ef yuhd lemme look at tha catlog erwhile."

Which group of sentences from the excerpt best
Strike441 [17]

The most suitable sentences to describe the author’s reason for writing are:

"And the Eldest Magician sd, 'How wise are little children who speak the truth! Now I know where Pau Amma went. Give me the paddle!" Thus, option "C" is correct.

Explain your answer briefly?

"Then the Eldest Magician said, ‘Listen, Pau Amma. When you go out from your cave the waters of the Sea pour down into Pusat Tasek, and all the beaches of all the islands are left bare, and the little fish die, and Raja Mojang Kaban, the King of the Elephants, his legs are made muddy. When you come back and sit in Pusat Tasek, the waters of the Sea rise, and half the little islands are drowned, and Man’s house is flooded, and Raja Abdullah, the King of the Crocodiles, his mouth is filled with the salt water.’”

Thus, option "C" is correct.
