The answer is: attempt.
In the philosophical poem "An Essay on Man," the author Alexander Pope suggests that man has learned about nature and the universe through science, and that many times he has tried to imitate God. Besides, he mentions that humanity should not try to pretend to be or study God but focus on itself.
