The width of a rectangular block of land is 2/7 of its length. If it’s perimeter is 252m, find it’s length.

the perimeter is : p = 2(x+y)..... x : width y : length

you have the system ; 2(x+y) = 252.......(1)

x = (2/7) y ...........(2)

y > x ....(3)

Substitute x = (2/7) y into (1) and simplifiy and solve for y :

(2/7) y + y = 126

(2y+7y)/7 = 126

9y = 882

y = 98 m ( the length )
