Which two factors below make rapid and substantial blood loss life-threatening?

Biology

KIM [24]3 years ago

Answer:

The correct answer is: d. loss of blood pressure and loss of oxygen-carrying capacity.

Explanation:

 • Blood is a liquid connective tissue which is the major component responsible for transporting nutrients and oxygen to all the cells in the body and for removing carbon dioxide and metabolic wastes from all the cells of the body.
 • When there is excessive blood loss, the total volume of blood in the body decreases far below normal. As a result of this the blood pressure (pressure applied by the blood on the walls of the arteries) decreases.
 • This is because the rate at which blood is lost is far more than the rate at which it is produced.
 • The decrease in blood pressure prevents the blood from travelling easily against the gravity, hence it is unable to reach all the regions of the body, thereby depriving many cells of nutrients and oxygen. The waste products are also not efficiently collected from these cells. This causes the cells in the deprived regions to die.
 • Blood carries the most important component required for respiration and metabolism, that is oxygen, in association with haemoglobin molecules. Excessive blood loss causes loss of haemoglobin as well. This can cause reduction in the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood. Hence the cells of the body are unable to carry out metabolic activities properly due to the dearth of oxygen. This causes the death of cells.
 • Excessive death of cells causes tissues to become non-functional and that can cause organ failure. Multiple organ failure can pose severe threat to life.

Why does CaCl2 need to be added to cells to make them 'competent'? Why does CaCl2 need to be added to cells to make them 'compet
V125BC [204]
DNA is a negatively-charged molecule. Also cell membranes are negatively charged. The problem would be how to push this charges together? If you put some CaCl2 into the mixture, the CaCl2 will "split" giving 2Cl- and Ca2+. This last ion will be attracted by the negatively charged DNA and will "cover" it, hiding its negative charge. Hope this answers the question.

Sickle cell anemia and albinism are both recessive traits in humans. Imagine that a couple, already pregnant with fraternal twin
lidiya [134]

Answer:

81/256

Explanation:

By doing a test cross of albinism and sickle cell anemia you'll see that the probability that one child is unaffected by either conditions will be 9/16. Both children would be 9/16 * 9/16.

Since fraternal twins are developed from two separate fertilization events the probability chance will be independent.

Refer the the graph below showing the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll a. Explain what the graph is showing
Stella [2.4K]

Answer: The graph shows that chlorophyll a absorbs light principally around 420-450 nm and 650-680nm wavelengths

Explanation: Chlorophyll a is a pigment found in plants that traps light energy for use in photosynthesis. Chlorophyll a absorbs light mostly in the blue and orange-red wavelengths. This is shown in the graph, where the peaks are around the 400nm and 600nm wavelengths, corresponding to blue and red in visible light.

This absorption means the pigment is 'excited' by this light, sending into a higher state if energy which provides energy for the reactions of photosynthesis.
