Laserwords Inc. is a book distributor that had been operating in its original facility since 1987. The increase in certification

programs and continuing education requirements in several professions has contributed to an annual growth rate of 15% for Laserwords since 2012. Laserwords’ original facility became obsolete by early 2017 because of the increased sales volume and the fact that Laserwords now carries CDs in addition to books.
On June 1, 2017, Laserwords contracted with Black Construction to have a new building constructed for $4,000,000 on land owned by Laserwords. The payments made by Laserwords to Black Construction are shown in the schedule below.

Date

Amount

July 30, 2017
$900,000

January 30, 2018
1,500,000

May 30, 2018
1,600,000

Total payments
$4,000,000

Construction was completed and the building was ready for occupancy on May 27, 2018. Laserwords had no new borrowings directly associated with the new building but had the following debt outstanding at May 31, 2018, the end of its fiscal year.

10%, 5-year note payable of $2,000,000, dated April 1, 2014, with interest payable annually on April 1.
12%, 10-year bond issue of $3,000,000 sold at par on June 30, 2010, with interest payable annually on June 30.

The new building qualifies for interest capitalization. The effect of capitalizing the interest on the new building, compared with the effect of expensing the interest, is material.

A. Compute the weighted-average accumulated expenditures on Laserwords’s new building during the capitalization period.

B Calculate Weighted-Average Interest Rate

If a company's current ratio increases from 1.2 to 1.4 from one year to the next, and its acid test ratio decreases from 0.20 to
Trava [24]

Answer:

The inventory has been reportedly increased and it should be checked.

Inventory management should be further examined.

Explanation:

Current Ratio = Current Assets/ Current liabilities

An increase in the current ratio means that there is an increase in the current assets or decrease in the current liabilities.

Acid test  Ratio=  Current Assets - Inventory / Current liabilities

If the acid test ratio is decreased it means that there is an increase in current liabilities or the current assets have decreased.

If we carefully look at the two formulas we find that inventory has increased and deduction of inventory from current assets reduces the amount of current assets and increases the current liabilities giving a bigger acid test ratio.

The inventory has been reportedly increased and it should be checked.

Inventory management should be further examined.

An important element in designing accounting-based performance measures is choosing the time horizon of the performance measures
tino4ka555 [31]

Answer:

These factors include different parameters of financial result

Explanation:

It is general belief that management's reliance on measures such as profit or return on capital lead to short-termism. This is a common management oversight in using financial results as a parameter of success at an accounting based performance management. Therefore, it is believed that this approach could be adjusted with the usage of non-financial parameters of result. Time horizon's frequency determination is a necessity when we discuss monitoring of project performances. Completion of project involves three phases:

  1. initial
  2. progress
  3. closure

Parameters like ROI, RI, EVA and ROS all evaluate one period of time, but may be adapted to track multiple time periods

Using both the supply and demand for bonds and liquidity preference framework, show how interest rate are affected when the risk
nignag [31]

Answer:

Yes, the results are the same in both frameworks. Please see below for explanation.

Explanation:

With regards to the bond supply and demand framework, people will look to buy more bonds since they are more wealthy now. Hence, the supply of bonds will increase. The supply curve and the demand curve will both move to the right, with the former shifting more than the latter. The equilibrium interest rate will increase.

With regards to the liquidity preference framework, once the economy experiences a positive shift, there will also be an increase in the demand for money. People will make an increased number of transactions as well and hence, the demand curve will move towards the right. The equilibrium interest rate will rise too.
