By definition:

A country like the US with a large Ecological Footprint of consumption that exceeds its biocapacity, calculated by the ratio of Ecological Footprint of consumption to its actual biocapacity.

As long as the reliance on fossil fuels exits for the provision energy and as lack of political will to lessen their use across the ecological debt will harm the planet.

Its lasting consequences are being perceived already and will be felt damaging the health of other ecosystems.

Unfortunately, China and the US are the largest ecological debtors and their share of pollution is the greatest.

Many signatures like the Kyoto Protocol were enforced by some developed countries in Europe but still as long as the US is unwilling to comply with the ongoing situation will only worsen.
