Read the excerpt from The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street. 58. LONG SHOT – STEVE 58. As he walks toward them from across the st

reet. STEVE Go ahead, what's my wife said? Let's get it all out. Let's pick out every idiosyncrasy of every single man, woman, and child on the street. And then we might as well set up some kind of a kangaroo court. How about a firing squad at dawn, Charlie, so we can get rid of all the suspects. Narrow them down. Make it easier for you. DON There's no need gettin' so upset, Steve. It's just that . . . well . . . Myra's talked about how there's been plenty of nights you spent hours down in your basement workin' on some kind of radio or something. Well, none of us have ever seen that radio— Based on the evidence in the excerpt, what will most likely happen next?

Steve is defensive especially now that Don has pointed out that nobody knows what he has been doing in the basement. The evidence suggests that Steve is going to get angry at Steve for accusing him of causing all of the strange goings on in the neighborhood. To Don, this anger is more evidence that Steve is up to something.

Which sentence best explains the meaning of the bolded line in this excerpt from act v, scene i, of twelfth night? clown: why, '
Dima020 [189]

The clown is commenting on the cyclic nature of time and saying that Malvolio has received the treatment he deserved, as shown in option B.

What can be perceived in the clown's speech?

 • Metaphors.
 • References to time.
 • Revenge references.

In the line "And thus the whirligig of time brings in his revenge" the clown shows a metaphor about how time is cyclic and how everything we do will turn against us for good or ill, according to our actions.

Thus, the clown shows that with time it is cyclical, Malvolio received what he provoked.
