So.. the number is "x", now, the product of "x" and 7 is just 7*x or 7x.

3 more than that? is just 7x + 3

so, we know is less than 26, 7x + 3 < 26

\bf 7x+3\ \textless \ 26\implies 7x\ \textless \ 26-3\implies 7x\ \textless \ 23\implies x\ \textless \ \cfrac{23}{7}
\\\\\\
\boxed{x\ \textless \ 3\frac{2}{7}}\qquad \qquad 3\frac{2}{7}\implies \cfrac{3\cdot 7+2}{7}\implies \cfrac{23}{7}

Find the center, vertices, and foci of the ellipse with equation 3x2 + 8y2 = 24
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

The center is at (0,0)

The vertices are at ( ( ±2 sqrt(2),0)

foci are ( ±sqrt(5),0)

Step-by-step explanation:

3x^2 + 8y^2 = 24

Divide each side by 24

3x^2 /24 + 8y^2/24 = 24/24

x^2/8 + y^2 /3 = 1

The general equation of an ellipse is

(x-h)^2/ a^2 + (y-k)^2 / b^2 = 1

a>b (h,k) is the center

the coordinates of the vertices are ( ±a,0)

the coordinates of the foci are ( ±c,0), where ^c2=a^2−b^ 2

The center is at (0,0)

a = sqrt(8) = 2sqrt(2)

The vertices are at ( ( ±2 sqrt(2),0)

c = 8 - 3 =5

foci are ( ±sqrt(5),0)

A rectangular picture frame has outside dimensions of 8 inches wide and 10 inches tall. If the glass on the picture frame has an
Leto [7]

Answer:

1 inch

Step-by-step explanation:

If we call the thickness of the frame x, then the dimensions of the glass are:

w = 8 − 2x

h = 10 − 2x

The area of the glass is width times height:

48 = (8 − 2x) (10 − 2x)

Distribute and simplify:

48 = 80 − 16x − 20x + 4x²

0 = 4x² − 36x + 32

0 = x² − 9x + 8

Factor and solve:

0 = (x − 1) (x − 8)

x = 1 or x = 8

x can't be more than 4 (half the width of the frame), so x = 1 inch.
